Preventive Dental Care Preventive care is about stopping problems before they happen. We want to help you do this. Oral health affects your overall health, let us show you how your oral health is doing and prevent problems from growing. At Park West Dental Group , Dr. Thomas Bierman, DDS and Dr. Quan Ma, DMD provide comprehensive care for your oral health. Some of the preventive services that our practice provides include:Dental Cleanings, Exams and X-raysBiannual Checkups are recommended as the minimum for every patient. For those with larger issues such as Gum and Periodontal Disease, we may request to see you more frequently. Oral Examinations should occur at least once a year, depending on your past history of cavities. Digital X-rays are taken every 6 months to 3 years depending on your past history of restorations and how regularly you visit the dentist for exams. Gum and Periodontal DiseaseGum Disease is the inflammation of the gums, it occurs when plaque builds up below the gum line causing redness and soreness. Gum Disease will progress causing the gums to pull away from the roots of the teeth compromising the strength of your teeth. It has been linked to diabetes and heart disease. Caught early, Gum Disease is reversible. Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ)The purpose of your TMJ, which is the hinge joint of your jaw bone, is to allow movement in your mouth. When the joint or the muscles supporting the joint are in disorder, this can cause pain, headaches and migraines in some cases. These conditions are referred to as TMD, meaning Temporomandibular disorder. It can be treated in many different ways, such as using a bite splint, stretching, physical therapy and over the counter medications. Oral Cancer AwarenessPart of your oral examination is screening for Oral Cancer. Oral cancer is a deadly disease and we will check thoroughly to try to catch anything as early as possible. |
